1910: Former Red Wings center Tom Anderson (1934-35) was born on this day in Edinburgh, Scotland. Anderson played 27 games and scored five goals and two assists for seven points.
1927: Former Red Wings defenseman Leonard “Red” Kelly (1947-60) was born on this day in Simcoe, Ontario. Kelly played 846 games for Detroit and scored 162 goals and 310 assists for 472 points. Kelly was named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team from 1951 through 1955, and again in 1957, and to the Second Team in 1950 and 1956. He won the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman in 1954 and won the Lady Byng Trophy as the league’s most gentlemanly player in 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1961 as a member of the Maple Leafs. Kelly was a member of the 1950, 1952, 1954 and 1955 Red Wings Stanley Cup teams. He finished his career with the Maple Leafs as a center and won four more Stanley Cups. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969.
1936: Former Red Wings left winger Andre Pronovost (1962-65) was born on this day in Shawinigan, Quebec. Pronovost played 120 games for Detroit and scored 20 goals and 22 assists.
