Red Wings
1953: Former Red Wings defenseman and head coach Dave Lewis was born on this day in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Lewis played 64 games for the Red Wings from 1986 through 1988 and scored two goals and five assists for seven points. He coached the Red Wings for two seasons (2002-2004) and had a record of 96-41-21-6.
NHL
1970: “The Finnish Flash” Teemu Selanne was born on this day in Helsinki, Finland. Selanne burst on to the NHL scene in in 1992-93 with the Winnipeg Jets scoring 76 goals
and 132 points to set NHL records for scoring by a rookie and won the Calder Trophy as the top rookie.
