People love to argue about whether "the Druids" built Stonehenge (impossible,
say scientists), but certainly the monument's architects were pre-Christian. Celts,

Wassup, pagans? Me and the rest of my heathens plan to gather Saturday in Redwood City to celebrate the change of seasons. Well, I might not be there, but the the Druid posse should be in full effect.
I don't mean a rival to the now defunct Taliban gang. I mean reconstructed Celtic-religion adherents from the Fellowship of Druidism for the Latter Age.
I got the word as a member of the San Jose Pagan/Magick Meetup Group, although I admit I've yet to attend a face-to-face event. It's more a matter of motivating the body off the couch than encouraging the mind to try something new.
You can find other Saturday equinox events through Yahoo's SFBayAreaPagans group, including an evening concert in Oakland and a dawn ship offering at the Wave Organ in San Francisco.
Anyway, the Redwood City gathering to ring in the spring is set for 3 p.m. at the "secret grove" of the group, so check out the Meetup site for details.
The invite says to bring food and drink for a feast that will follow a Druid ritual. One Web site I found says the vernal equinox is primarily honored by neo-Pagans as opposed to historic Druids of the Celtic lands.
I would dig deeper to find out for sure, but suffice to say that our contemporary Easter holiday around this time is loaded with heathen significance, highlighted by such blatant fertility symbols as eggs and bunnies. Everybody rejoices when the weather warms and greenery returns.
