The release date for the much anticipated film, Coco avant Chanel or Coco Before Chanel as it will be known in the US, has finally been revealed. The film is expected to go state side on September 25th.
Coco Before Chanel, starring Audrey Tautou, is the intriguing story of celebrated French designer Coco Chanel's rise to power in the fashion industry.
Director, Anne Fontaine, had only one actress in mind to play the legendary designer. Fontaine was so convinced French actress and The Da Vinci Code star Audrey Tautou should play the legendary designer, Fontaine threatened to quit if Tautou did not sign up for the film.
Fontaine says, "It couldn't be another French actress for me. It was so obvious, as she was so close physically. In the pictures, sometimes, it's incredible. She's so thin and fragile, but also strong in her personality. I couldn't imagine it as anybody else.
"Many could play the part, but you have to be different...She has to be really special and Audrey is very special, with these two big eyes and this little boy body. I had the conviction when I saw her that she was the reincarnation of a young Chanel."
A trailer has been released via UK's Telegraph and, although silent with no subtitles, the footage is still compelling. It begins with Coco's famous quote, "Fashion passes, style remains" and goes on to expose Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's early life working with a sewing machine, dancing in a cabaret club, and then her life among high society.
