Hopefully your Valentine's Day was a success and the winter blues haven't gotten the best of you yet.  If you're looking for something cheap and fun to do (after all we are in a recession) I've compiled a list of events taking place at local bookstores and libraries around Puget Sound.  Grab a book and a friend and check out one of these happenings.

Monday, February 16
Note: All public libraries in the Seattle Metro area are closed today to observe Presidents Day
Elliot Bay Book Company: Author Larry Wilmore will discuss his book I’d Rather We Got casinos, and Other Black Thoughts at 7:30 p.m. (free).
University Book Store (University District): Author Christopher Moore will read from and sign his new novel Fool at 7 p.m. (free).
Tuesday, February 17
Elliot Bay Book Company: Author Robert V. Camuto will discuss and sign his book Adventures in the French Wine Country at noon (free).
Elliot Bay Book Company: Northwest author Debra Gwartney will discuss her new book Live Through This at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Mukilteo Library (Snohomish County): Scottish crime writer Val McDermid will sign her book A Darker Domain at 7 p m. (free).
Seattle Mystery Bookshop: Scottish crime writer Val McDermid will discuss her book A Darker Domain at noon (free).
Seattle Town Hall: Walter Williams will discuss and sign his book The Politics of Bad Ideas at 7:30 p.m. ($5).
Seattle University Book Store:   Author Ken Scholes will read from and sign his book Lamentation at 7 p.m. (free).
Wednesday, February 18
Elliot Bay Book Company: Author E. Lynn Harris will discuss his book Basket Ball Jones at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Seattle Public Library (Ballard Branch): Author Brian Preston will read from his memoir Me, Chi, and Bruce Lee at 6:30 p.m. (free).
Spitfire: Open mic poetry slam and poet Matt Gano will begin at 8 p.m. ($5).
Third Place Books (Lake Forest): Northwest author Debra Gwartney will discuss her new book Live Through This at 7 p.m. (free).
University Book Store (University District): Author Dan Simmons will read from and sign his novel, based on the last tears of Charles Dickens’ life Drood at 7 p.m. (free).
Thursday, February 19
Eagle Harbor Books: Author Erica Bauermeister will discuss her novel The School of Essential Ingredients at 7:30 p.m. (free).
Seattle Public Library (Beacon Hill Branch): Author Mary Woodward will discuss her book In Defense of Our Neighbors at 6:30 p.m. (free).
Third Place Books (Lake Forest): Author Jacqueline Winspear will discuss her boo Among the Mad at 7 p.m. (free).
Town Hall Seattle: Investigative Journalist and author Pratap Chatterjee will discuss his book Halliburton’s Army: The Long, Strange Tale of a Private, Profitable, and Out-of-Control Texas Oil Company at 7:30 p.m. (free).
