Each week I will be endeavoring to list new productions opening around the Twin Cities. With such an abundance of companies and venues in the area, keeping track of openings can be a challenge. I'm almost certain to miss a few, but I'll link whatever I can find. Provided descriptions are reprinted from production websites:

Opening December 11th

Ritz Theater: Ballet of the Dolls' Little Match Girl
Spark your imagination this holiday season with Ballet of the Doll's Little Match Girl, a new holiday production for the entire family. What if you only had your memories to keep you warm? So goes the story of the Little Match Girl, whose visions of the past arrive in the flames at the tip of a match. Brought to life by the always innovative Ballet of the Dolls, your family will surely leave with some vivid memories of their own. – from the Ritz Theater website

Bedlam Theatre: The Turducken! Dinner Theatre
Bedlam Theatre presents The Turducken, a hilariously dark sendup of holiday revues, dinner theater, and Chekhov's classic The Seagull. Experience the lighter side of failure and tragedy, as an inept collection of aspiring performers follow a dream of creating their own renaissance festival to disastrous effect. Forced to find work during the holidays, these performers take on an increasingly pathetic series of Christmas-themed jobs and watch their lives and families collapse in fits of profound and comical sadness. – from the Bedlam Theatre website

Opening December 13th

Southern Theater: Zenon Dance Company presents The Nutcracker According to Mother Goose
Presented by Zenon Dance Company, this imaginative version of The Nutcracker Suite features Mother Goose along with Jack and Jill, Wee Willie Winkie, Little Bo Peep, Mary and her lamb and other delightful nursery rhyme characters set to the captivating music of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. The story unfolds as Mother Goose’s favorite characters unwrap the gifts she has left for them under the Christmas tree: magic dancing slippers that enable them to dance their stories. A lesson about the pleasure of giving, the joy of sharing and the wonders of dance! Penned by popular children’s author Bruce Lansky, director Kay Cummings and New York choreographer Seán Curran reinvent the wheel on this holiday season favorite, dancing new life into beloved characters just when you thought you’d seen it all before.– from the Southern Theater website
