Although obvious good news for the city, the three gap years aroused cheers elsewhere in the region. Baltimore will draw the game in 2014 and 2016 and Landover's Fedex Field will host the contest in 2011. It will be the first time that the DC-region has hosted the game.
"Today's announcement is great news for Maryland," U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) told the Associated Press.
Baltimore has landed the game four times, most recently in 2007, and most notably in 1944 when the game proved the de facto national championship.
This year's staging will be held on December 12 at Lincoln Financial Field.
