NOWHERE in the bible does it say that abortion is wrong. Priests, pastors, rabbis and other religious leaders interpret the bible to suit their own agendas. They spread them like a plague to their ignorant constituents to lazy to think for themselves and research in their bible if what they are being told is truth. Believers follow blindly, spewing their opinions as if it's based on some written biblical text, which it is not.
Christians are the most vocal leaders of the anti-abortion movement. The fact is, most don't even know the misinterpreted passages out of their bible from which they preach their anti-abortionist point of view. They quote their religious leader’s rhetoric—warped biblical interpretation like this:
(Genesis 1:27): "God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them."
Priests and pastors conjured this to mean their bible teaches that human life is different from other types of life, because human beings are made in the very image of their god, therefore the deliberate destruction of a child in the womb is wrong. Of course, this text does NOT say any of this. Nor does it even infer abortion is sinful.
Another warped interpretation: "Be fertile and multiply" (Genesis 1:28), and "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17).
These sentiments are repeated throughout the Old and New Testament but NOWHERE does it say: “Do not terminate a pregnancy in the womb,” or that this is a sin. Though their bible extensively discusses killing ‘innocents’ as wrong, it also tells of their god asking people to murder their children as a show of their faith. It describes elaborate tales of killing ‘enemies’ as holy, even innocent mothers and children if they happen to be among a group that doesn’t embrace their point of view.
The book of Psalms seems to be a huge source of their warped interpretations of the bible to justify anti-abortionist.
"Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward" (Psalm 127:3).
Anti-abortionist believe this line means that killing what their god has put in the womb is a sin, even though the text DOES NOT SAY THIS. Church leaders further their warped delusion with this:
"For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb."
Psalm 139:13 is so obscure that it is virtually impossible to interpret with any accuracy what the writer originally meant. It talks about their god creating a man in the womb of a woman. It makes NO reference to destroying what their god has put in the womb, or any consequences thereof. It makes NO reference to their god's position on if the fetus he put in the womb is even a person. Those little twists came from the church to further their cause.
Anti-abortionists tout the misinterpretation of their bible, hand delivered to them by their power-hunger leaders looking to rally their followers around a cause to keep them united and faithful. Priests and religious leaders who misquote the bible for their personal gain, and to keep believers following them are sinners against truth. People who follow blindly without reading the bible they hype are sinners against society and corrupt the very foundation of this country.
But the most egregious, destructive sinners of all are those that vote for a politician based on their position on abortion. Even if it wasn’t all lies by the church to manipulate their followers; and even if it was truth and everyone in the U.S. believed in religion, or the bible, which we don’t, the foundation of our nation is based on a SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.
Abortion is a civil right. I should have the right to reproduce, or terminate a pregnancy if I choose not to reproduce at that time, for whatever reason I deem necessary. Like gay marriage, the right to have an abortion is a personal choice, has nothing to do with religion, and should NEVER be part of our political agenda.
