A bit of marketing genius by Golfsmith and TaylorMade turned sour thanks to Sergio Garcia's sad finish at The Masters.
Golfsmith and TaylorMade offered customers on March 20 who purchased any of three new TaylorMade drivers -- the R9, r7 Limited or Burner 09 – to have their money refunded if Garcia won The Masters.
After two rounds, Garcia must have worried the folks at Golfsmith and TaylorMade. After a second-round 5-under-oar 67, Garcia was in the thick of things at Augusta with a 4-under, two-day total of 140.
As Garcia often has done in the majors he came through with a 5-over-par finish-- 3-over 75 on Saturday and 2-over 74 Sunday -- to tie for 38th place at The Masters. The male golfing version of Anna Kournikova continues to flounder in the majors (and yes, we know he won the The Players Championship a year ago, which many call the "fifth"major).
If you bought a TaylorMade driver thinking Sergio would come through, shame on you. At least you got a good club to take out your frustrations.
