This past Saturday, thousands of people from all across the country banded together to show their disdain towards the bloated government and it’s over-reaching hands.
A particularly large group of us “extremists” gathered in Johnson County, outside of Representative Dennis Moore’s office, outraged that he refuses to meet with his constituents about healthcare. We chanted “No more Moore” over and over again with a hefty inflection of disgust.
Dennis Moore says he has been threatened, therefore, will not put himself at risk to meet with the people he represents. To Dennis Moore I ask, why do we put our soldiers at risk every day, yet you are afraid of an old woman yelling at you? Do you really think that if someone wanted to harm you, they wouldn’t be able to find a time or place to do it? Why would it only happen at a town hall?
Across the street from the “too much government” protest, was a smaller protest with signs reading “Palin is a liar” and “70% of Americans want a public option.” I am not sure where they get their information, but according to Rasmussen, only 35% want the current bill to pass. Maybe their signs should read “We are liars.”
I also noticed that the protestors across the street seemed to be angry, not chanting, but SCREAMING at our side of the street. What are they so livid about? Are they angry that their health care bill is getting less and less support? Are they upset that the democrats aren’t just ramming this thing through? Are they mad that our republic seems to work?
Lastly, I would like to thank the police who were there, protecting the protestors from each other. They were professional, kind and seemed to understand that we did have a right to be there. Not once did I see them throwing their power around, like a teenage lifeguard. It was common to see them stop traffic to help someone cross the street. I commend them. They did a fantastic job.
