For a nice rural getaway, even if you never leave your porch, Snow Melts in Spring, the first book by author Deborah Vogts will be available in bookstores on July 1. A contemporary prairie romance, the novel promises to transport readers to the magnificence of the Flint Hills' tallgrass prairie and to introduce the people who live there. Published by Zondervan, it is the first in a 3-book series – Seasons of the Tallgrass.
Snow Melts in Spring tells the story of the developing romance between a Kansas veterinarian Mattie Evans, and a former Kansan, Gil McCray - now a professional football player who lives in California. Horses and ranchers play a major part in the plot line. The setting takes place in a fictional county and town based on the area around Cottonwood Falls, Kansas.
On her website, Vogts discusses her original inspiration for the series, "Years ago, I took a college course at Emporia State University called Flint Hills Folklife. Dr. Jim Hoy taught about the Flint Hills inside and outside the classroom. That summer, my love for the Flint Hills of Kansas was born." The beauty and uniqueness of the landscape has also inspired film-makers, artists and musicians; and may even entice visitors from Illinois.
Deborah and her husband have three daughters and make their home in Southeast Kansas where they raise and train American Quarter Horses. According to the calendar of events published on her web site, Deborah will be visiting throughout Kansas for book signings during the month of July. With the debut of her first book, Deborah gives some credit for her success to the group American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW). Their website also promotes releases of other new Christian fiction.
