In case you missed it, Brett Favre did his best to end former New England Patriot (and current Houston Texan) Eugene Wilson’s season last night.
In the third quarter, while lined up as a wide receiver in a “wildcat” style play, Favre threw an illegal crackback block right to the knee of Wilson. Wilson hobbled off the field with an apparent knee injury.
If the NFL is going to suspend every defensive player who looks at a quarterback the wrong way, they need to dish out the same punishment to quarterbacks who, purposely or not, throw dangerous blocks at defenders’ knees.
Favre, who told ESPN that he had cracked ribs prior to the game just in case he played poorly (need that built-in excuse), actually had a pretty good game up until that point. He dink and dunked the Texans to death, which is exactly what the Vikings want from their quarterback. He played efficient, mistake-free football.
But his hit on Eugene Wilson was dirty. Very dirty. At a minimum, he should be fined.
If the NFL wants to be fair, he should be suspended.
Think I’m being too harsh? Judge for yourself (at least until the NFL figures out someone posted the video on YouTube and confiscates it LeBron James style):
