Will Pats be without Light on Sunday?

Update 11/26/08 @ 3:30pm: The NFL announced that Matt Light was fined $15,000 for Sunday's fight with Channing Crowder. It looks like he dodged a suspension, which is good news for the Patriots. Crowder was also fined $15,000.

No news is good news, assuming you’re a starting left tackle for the New England Patriots who went crazy and started punching a Miami Dolphin in the head while simultaneously trying to rip off his dreadlocks.

You would think the NFL would announce a suspension early enough in the week to allow the Patriots to prepare. Which means Matt Light will probably not be suspended, at least for this weekend’s game against the Steelers.

The typical penalty for fighting this season has been a fine ranging from $10,000 to $25,000. Nobody has received a suspension for their first offense.

Then again, every time I watch this video I can’t help but think the NFL is going to come down hard on the Patriots’ left tackle. God knows, the NFL loves making an example out of the New England Patriots.

News & Notes

  • The Patriots’ December 7th game against the Seahawks has been moved from 8:15pm to 4:05pm. The Sunday night game has been replaced by the Ravens-Redskins match-up. Probably a good move, considering how pathetic the Seahawks have been.
  • The Patriots’ red-zone defense was terrible on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins got into the red-zone four times, and scored four touchdowns. Not good.
  • The Patriots’ injuries have been well documented, but the Steelers come into this weekend’s game with injury issues of their own. Willie Parker is questionable. Deshea Townsend is doubtful with a hamstring issue. Bryant McFadden is questionable with a broken forearm. Having two cornerbacks miss Sunday’s game would probably not be ideal considering the wide receives they’ll be up against.
  • The Steelers have lost 6 of their last 7 games against the Patriots, but lead the overall series 13-10.
  • Boston Sports Examiner Mark Fuery has a pretty good breakdown of the AFC East race. He, like me, thinks the Jets are going to take the division.
