“Beverly Hills, 90210” alum Jason Priestley seems to be keeping busy behind the camera these days, which seems to decrease our chances at seeing a Brandon Walsh cameo on the new series, “90210.”
Priestley will direct “The Lake,” an online series for TheWB.com, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is a drama set to follow four families at a lakeside retreat. It is scheduled to premiere in August.
Priestley does continue to act, however, with recent roles in TV movies such as “Expecting A Miracle” (airing on the Hallmark Channel) and a guest spot on “My Name Is Earl.” But his only connection to the new “90210” on the CW network so far has been behind the scenes. He directed an episode entitled, “Off the Rails,” but has yet to bring back his infamous role of Brandon Walsh to the famous zip code.
The character of Brandon has been mentioned by both with Kelly Taylor and Brenda Walsh (roles both reprised by Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty), but it was revealed that Kelly’s little boy, Sammy, was fathered by Dylan McKay, and not Brandon as some fans had hoped. It was also mentioned that Brandon was living in Belize.
Priestley told Access Hollywood last fall as the new series was getting under way that "There really wasn't anything interesting for me to do as Brandon on that show … As a director who directed the most episodes of the original show, I felt that I just had more to offer as a director over there and apparently, so did they."
So as the new “90210” continues this fall, fans of the original series can always hope for the return of Brandon Walsh, but shouldn’t hold their breath. Hopefully Kelly and Brenda will continue to give updates on Brandon's whereabouts.
