Trixie's Coffee House puts the love back in poetry

Many of us have lives filled with daily routines and deadlines. Tapping into our creative energies may not be at the top of the list of things to do. Fostering a sense of creativity can generate feelings of delight, purpose and passion.  Setting time aside to embrace the arts at Trixie’s Coffee House is a must . Trixie’s Coffee House provides people from all walks of life the encouragement to reach deep into them selves and let out the artist within.

Trixie’s Coffee house is located on Gratiot Avenue just south of 696. It is a place for people of all ages to explore art, music and creative writing in an environment reminiscent of the Woodstock days. Poets and musicians alike find a comfortable, Peaceful and friendly atmosphere where they can step outside the “norms” and explore their potentials as creative human beings.

In December of 2001 Patricia Wolfauer opened Trixie’s Coffee House. She was only twenty one years old at the time of Trixie’s launch. Patricia set herself on a quest to build a connective Mecca for people of all ages, races and nationalities. Trixie’s was always meant to be an outlet for creative minds and a place that everyone is given a chance to explore their own creative possibilities.

For example, traveling Australian musician Steve Kopandy found great support from Trixie’s during his stay in Detroit on his way around the world. His debut album “Based on a True Dream” was written in Paris, France, recorded in Melbourne, Australia and released in Detroit, Michigan.

It is not uncommon to find patrons from all parts of the globe. No matter where one hails from this is a place “where everybody knows your name”. It seems that everyone at Trixie’s is interested in where visitors come from and what their interests are.

Trixie’s promotes fair trade and has a menu of organic foods, coffee and tea. To support and encourage the arts Patricia keeps all local music in stock and gives one hundred percent of the profits from CD sales directly to the artists.
Trixie’s coffee house holds open mike poetry every Sunday starting at 9:30pm. A talented, local poet who goes by the name of “Reverence” hosts the event. A featured poet is typically part of the weekly venue.
