For all intent and purpose, yes, the Facebook username launch went off well. Mashable cites Facebook as registering 200,000 in 3 minutes with more than 500,000 in 15 minutes. No delay in service. Fantastic news especially being able to skip the technological meltdowns for lack of bandwidth that can happen.
But is this a major event is the burning question. With a noted 200 million active Facebook users listed on the Facebook advertising page, less than 1 percent stayed up or set their clocks for this event. Clicking around to family and tech folk, it's mixed over who wanted their own vanity URL.
For the most part, it came. It went. It's a new fun feature. Carry on.

Three things worth noting
And the most negative thing I could think to say for all of the worst-case scenario planning, very tiny ding all things considered, is that www.facebook.com/usernames was not originally available for registration to account for the butter fingers out there. It is now. Someone must have realized or had their own finger boo boo.
