For such minuscule pieces of fabric, the cost of decent swimwear can really add up! It's easy to drop over $100 on a swimmie, and designer swimmie's can reach well over $500!
Luckily for Bargain Shoppers, it's August, which is a perfect time to find great deals on swimmies: stores start slashing prices, yet there's still at least another 2 months left to lounge poolside (at least for those of us in the DC area). I've tried a little of everything from Target (Tar-jay) to Pucci, but my all-time fave swimmies are Poko Pano, ShoshannaLilly Pulitzer, and OP. Below are some of my tips for finding deals on these a-mazing brands and more!
Shop Late Summer: Department stores, boutiques (Sylene in Chevy Chase has some great sales right now), surf shops (I love Bert's)--as I previously mentioned, stores are trying to clear out their summer stock to bring in fall/winter pieces, so now is when you'll find the swimmies on the sale racks. Sometimes you have to dig to find matching pieces, but you can always mix-it-up, and trust me the prices are worth it. A few years ago I found a basic black and brown Juicy Couture swimmie at Bloomies for only $30. It was such a great deal, that my shopping buddy got one too. We're kind of like the Bargain Bobbsey Twins.
Ebay: Ok, I cringe a little when I hear "swimwear" and "ebay" in the same sentence, and I'm sure many of you do as well. However, if you look for items that are new with tags, that takes some of the skeevie factor out (obvi you should always wash swimmies prior to wearing, because you never know who has tried it on before you). As always with Ebay, be sure to by from reputable sellers, since there are quite a few fraudulent dealers out there.
Twitter: Following your favorite labels on Twitter can definitely be worth your time and money. Perfect example: Poko Pano ( @pokopanoswim ) frequently offers discounts and free shipping. They're currently running one of these specials, but you'll have to "follow" them to find out!
Walmart: When it comes to shopping I'm a quality over quantity gal, so Walmart is definitely not normally on my swimmie shopping radar. However, I'm kind of obsessed with the OP solid swimmies they have this season. You can put together a suit for a whopping $15. The fit is decent, the colors are fun, and they're perfect for rivers, creeks (or cricks as they say in WV), or any other places that you wouldn't want your pricier suits venturing.
