Wimbledon, England, (7/3/09) - Fairfield's James Blake and fellow American Mardy Fish have advanced to the semifinals in doubles action at Wimbledon. The duo of Blake and Fish defeated Simon Aspelin (Sweden) and Paul Hanley (Australia) 7-6 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (5) during quarterfinal play on Wednesday.
Blake lost in the first round of singles action for the second consecutive major (French Open), a disappointment considering he reached the quarters of the Australian Open to start 2009.
"I still feel like I can play with anyone in the world, but it's just for some reason lately it has been very inconsistent," Blake said after his singles loss. "I know I still have the ability. It's just frustrating because it's happening at big tournaments where I'm having my not-so-good performances."
Blake and Fish return to the grass court tomorrow when they face Daniel Nestor (Canada) and Nenad Zimonjic (Serbia) for a spot in the Wimbledon final.
