On June 25, 2009 music lost a revolutionary. The current stars in pop music lost their instructor. I know that there are countless dedications and tributes to the man, the music, the legend of Michael Jackson. I believe that most people are being genuine in their efforts to memorialize someone who was IT in his self created genre. The technicalities of the music industry and the new digital age will not allow another MJ to be created. The tolerance, acceptance and patience of the industry’s inner workings will not stand for it. The public will not stand in the rain and bare the 6 inches of snow to purchase a hard copy of a cd at the local record store. Obviously there are some exceptions to both scenarios with some artists, but not to the pinnacle of where MJ reached.
I am 27 and obviously just doing the math I wasn’t really able to comprehend the magnitude of his impact back then but I was aware that a star named Michael Jackson existed and was dominating music with his baby sister soon to follow.

I will not give a history lesson on the monumental achievements that he accomplished, but I will say this sometimes lightning strikes in a bottle and when you see it you acknowledge it and stare in awe. Most creative/innovative geniuses were little cooky/disturbed in their personal lives ranging from Einstein, Martin Luther King Jr., James Brown, Elvis, President Kennedy and more. So his mishaps, bad judgments and misfortunes are not that foreign in retrospect. I can say that I would not have done this or that, but my childhood upbringing was not that of his. My reality was not that of his. Nor was my access, netted dollars and fame was not that of his. So, with that said opinions are like…well you know.

I did a tribute show with my Boston Hip Hop Community and wanted to still do what I do and in the fashion that I do it in. Click to here to listen

So enjoy, celebrate, mourn, appreciate and admire!

Cheers!

Loved by many, envied by some and imitated by more. RIP Mike
