The newest tapas bar to enter the Salt Lake food scene is Eva. Eva is a welcome surprise in all ways—from the delicate flavors of the food, charming décor and even the secluded patio. Eva features an interesting selection of small plates as well as sandwiches and baker’s pies (wood-fired pizzas) in addition to a full bar and a small but well-balanced wine list and some nice beer options.
One of the most boring sounding items on the menu is one of the absolute best—hands down. The sautéed brussel sprouts with toasted hazelnuts ($4) were mild (no bitter bite) yet bursting with flavor. Our table could have easily eaten three orders or more not because of portion size but because we all needed more! Two of our diners tried the shrimp and orzo salad with cucumber and feta ($5.50). Portion size was generous and flavors worked well together. Another surprise was the wood-fired flatbread with truffle white bean puree ($4). The truffle flavor is not overwhelming but seemed to have an almost addictive quality to it. We finished off the flatbread and then ate the remaining puree with a fork it was so delicious. Other items we tried were the calamari ($6), fries (with garlic, rosemary and parmesan, $4), smoked salmon tartare with avocado mousse ($5) and flatbread chicken sandwich with roasted peppers, feta and olives ($8). All were excellent in their own right.
Eva recently took part in the Downtown Dine O' Round and hopefully picked up some additional new diners because this is a great location and the right kind of place for a casual lunch or get together after work.
