Sarah Palin was a favored target of many Democrats, but with her recent departure from the spotlight, a woman who once called President Obama “anti-American” has now emerged as a possible objective of the left’s ire.
According to Newser, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, a far-right Minnesota Rep., is similar to Palin in her social conservatism, has a large family, and her accent reveals upper Midwestern roots.
Michelle Martson, Bachmann’s chief of staff told the Free Republic that on the Democratic campaign’s hit-list, “She’s definitely somewhere up there.”
A local chair in Bachmann’s district, Jeremy Powers, said “Michele Bachmann is just nuts. She is just an utter embarrassment.”
Liberal blogs such as the Daily Kos write of Bachmann, “After having just returned from a trip to Minnesota, I shake my head that such a beautiful place would be represented by such an ugly individual as Bachmann.”
Democrats have enlisted popular state senator Tarryl Clark to try to unseat Bachmann in 2010, but their efforts may be futile. Newser reports that a GOP strategist commented that the district is very conservative and has voted red in the last three presidential races and said, “They’d like to think they can beat her. I don’t think they can do it.”
