Passengers and an employee of a US Airways flight leaving Philadelphia bound for Phoenix are being questioned after a handgun was found on board.
According to sources, a passenger allegedly gave the bag with the gun to a US Airways employee who bypassed security screening before giving the bag back to the passenger.
Authorities also discovered ammunition on the plane.
The exchange of the bag between the passenger and an employee was observed by another passenger who alerted authorities. A search of the plane was subsequently conducted and the gun was found.
Investigators say the incident is not related to terrorism and appears to be isolated. They also believe the passenger was not planning to use the gun on the flight, but was trying to bypass security in order to carry the gun to Phoenix.
