The two Americans on board the missing Air France plane were Michael Harris, 60, and his wife Anne, 54. A spokesperson for Harris’ employer said the couple was headed to Europe for work and a vacation.
Michael worked in Rio de Janeiro for Devon Energy Corp., an Oklahoma City-based company. Company spokesperson, Chip Minty, said Michael was scheduled to attend seminars in Barcelona, Spain after which “…they had five days on R&R in Paris.”
Late Sunday, the airliner disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean after it left Brazil for Paris. Floating debris was spotted Tuesday by Brazilian military pilots, but no sign of life from the 228 passengers on board was found.
Anne Harris was a physical therapist originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. Her sister, Mary Miley said of the couple, “They were both gregarious, caring, patient, kind, fun-living individuals. My only comfort is that they died together.”
According to Minty, Michael Harris began working at Devon’s Houston, Tex. office in 2004, and moved to their Rio de Janeiro office in 2008.
A friend of the family, Pandora Vickery told CBS News, “Words cannot describe right now the emptiness we all feel for them and their families, and all the other families on that flight. It’s tragic.”
The couple had two children, B.S. Hampton Harris IV, 27, and Andrew Musgrove, 30.
