If you have a company that sells a product, even if it's already a good one, it sure helps to have a celebrity name attached to it.
A new documentary—Race Across the Sky—covers the 2009 Leadville 100 is set to debut Oct. 20 in Durango, Colorado.
And just who competed in the race? Some wiry guy from Austin with quads manufactured on an assembly line in Detroit.
That would be Lance Armstrong—seven-time Tour de France champion, cancer survivor, inspiration to millions.
While the debut in Durango isn't for another month, you can catch a glimpse by watching the five-minute trailer on YouTube.
The Leadville 100 is a unique race in which Joe Q. Pedaler can compete with some of the elite names in mountain biking. If the trailer is any indication, the documentary, produced by Citizen Pictures, will be one of the most highly anticipated cycling films in recent memory. The camera work, background music, and the story setting up the showdown between Dave Wiens, the six-time Leadville champion, and Armstrong, who finished in second in the 2008 race seems primed for compelling sports drama.
Without Armstrong's presence in the film, it would be a fine piece of artwork unjustly ignored by most people outside of the mountain biking domain, much like a local indie band with better songs than that heard on the radio. With Armstrong, however, this niche film is destined to pique the interest of a much broader audience—and maybe even give Wiens some much deserved publicity.
