Southwest apologizes; compensates woman removed from flight because of 'cranky child'

Apologizing for kicking a mom and her screaming two-year-old off of a flight last week, Southwest Airlines has refunded the cost of the airline ticket and offered an additional $300 credit toward a future flight with the airline.

The boy and his mother were removed from an Amarillo, Texas to San Jose, California flight because the youngster “was acting too much his age,” according to an Associated Press report.

The San Jose Mercury-News apparently was the first publication to carry the story, writing, “with her luggage heading back home without her, Root was stuck in Amarillo, Texas and forced to buy a portable crib and diapers and spend another night with her parents.

A Southwest spokesperson said that removing someone from a flight, especially a child, is extremely unusual. The airline was asked by the newspaper to investigate what transpired and determined that a refund and future credit was warranted
