So many of you loved this story and so many have commented. I wanted to give my subscribers and new readers the opportunity to look at some of the passionate responses. Keep in mind some are quite lengthy and others quite funny. Add your comments as well. Also, check out the links I've posted for you to listen to both Beyonce and R. Kelly's versions of 'If I Were A Boy'. If you are looking for The Real Houswives of Atlanta's Sheree Whitfield's messy divorce story - click here.
There's a remix to Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy". R. Kelly lends his views to the pop song in a way only R. Kelly can deliver.
I have to admit that after watching the original video, Beyonce's song began to grow on me and I truly loved it. But why?

Sure Beyonce is a songstress who has great command of her vocals (to men, their main characteristic of Beyonce is her hot bod), however, the song itself presents an idea that many of us speak about in our various social circles. What if women could become men for just one day? What would women do? Beyonce says if she were a boy: "...I'd listen to her /cause I know how it hurts/when you lose the one you wanted/cause he's taken you for granted/and everything you had got destroyed..."
In the world of dating, we often feel that if only the other sex could experience the pain we bear then they wouldn't hurt us so badly. We ladies would love to think that the male vs. female dynamic could be figured out with a minor "brain sex re-org"! In fact, I believe that's why Beyonce's video "If I Were A Boy" is shown in black and white - covering only the stereotypes.
Of course Beyonce understands the shades of relationship grey but for our purposes here, let's explore the simple black and white option. Boys are insensitive, non-chalant, beer drinking dudes who hang out and chase girls. Maybe B's right? She does distinguish between what she considers a boy vs. a man. Do you agree with her song's perception of boyhood?
OR
Are you more along the lines of what R. Kelly says in his song's rebuttal. The remix with the controversial R. Kelly is hot (links to both video and audio will be at the end of this column). Here's a snippet of R. Kelly's lyrics to "If I Were A Boy":
R. Kelly: "...you need to stop listening to your friends love respect and trust your man/so I go to clubs with the guys/and sometimes flirt with the girls/I should be able to roll out/as long as I'm coming home to you and give you the world/But you are not a boy/so you don't have a clue/how I work and pay the bills/girl everything I do is for you..."
Ladies and gentlemen, I've heard R. Kelly's argument just as much as I've heard Beyonce's stance. Which portion of the song are you? Are you both?
In the song, Beyonce makes reference to a male's selective use of phone service. Beyonce sings "I would turn off my phone...tell everyone it's broken so they'd think I was sleeping alone..." Sound familiar?
And as soon as I was about to chime in with the "Amen Beyonce, that's so true. Why do men play games?", R. Kelly comes back with "If I were a girl, I wouldn't play games..."
Um, R.Kelly, aren't men playing games when they turn their phone off or send all calls to voicemail? Ladies, how many times can we count with guys claiming phone issues (either with you or your girlfriends)? Folks, with all these phone issues that some guys claim, clearly there should be a class action lawsuit to the telecommunications companies brewing.
The greatest line in the remix that both sexes will agree on, comes from R. Kelly: "...You are not a perfect woman and I'm not a perfect man.."
I want all my daters to weigh in on this.
