Denise Richards loves the Cookie Diet weight loss system.

It's faster to eat a cookie than to name all the celebrities who follow the Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet weight loss system, such as Mandy Moore, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Guy Ritchie, Howard Stern, Ashlee and Jessica Simpson, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Denise Richards, and Brooke and Hulk Kogan. The popular Cookie Diet, which features hunger-controlling cookies, shakes and soup, was created by Sanford Siegal, M.D., who says his South Florida medical practice has treated more than 500,000 overweight patients since it was founded.

So why are celebrities such as Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian so fond of the Cookie Diet?  "The main reason why celebrities are drawn to the diet is because it is convenient," says the Miami physician.  "They have extremely busy lifestyles and what’s easier than throwing a bag of cookies into their purse for the day? It is also a way to “trick” themselves to thinking they are eating something tasty and satisfying."

The most popular celebrity favorites include the oatmeal-raisin and chocolate flavors, as well as blueberry.  Pounds lost range from seven to 25 pounds, according to the doctor.

Most people order their cookies directly from the Cookie Diet website. A typical day on the diet includes 1,000 calories – six 90 calorie cookies a day with a well balanced meal at night (protein, whole-grains and vegetables).

The physician brewed up the ingredients for the cookie-based diet in the early 1970s, while researching a book "on natural food substances that augment the hypothalamic control of hunger. The hypothalamus is an area of the brain thought to play a role in hunger and satiety." After experimenting with family and friends, Dr. Siegal "perfected the secret recipe for a blend of amino acid food proteins that effectively controls hunger without drugs. I baked my formula into an oatmeal raisin cookie and provided it to a few patients."  They loved it, and two years later, the cookie diet became a phenomenon.

To ensure that his diet and weight loss plan continues to succeed, Dr. Siegal says he personally mixes "every batch of the secret protein blend with my own hands!" It's an invention that appears to taste good to celebrities as well as the general public.
