One sweet treat. Delivery from farm to porch
In Season. This is my dream delivery service (and I have yet to try it) but I just can’t keep it to myself. I’ll give you the basics, and once I try it I will fill in the details.
I can place my order online on a Saturday before noon and the following magic will happen: I leave a cooler on my porch and (for residents of Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge, Medford, Somerville and Watertown) a New Amsterdam Project (NAP) delivery person will leave my order on my doorstep between 5 and 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. As In Season states: “When you wake up on Tuesday morning your order should be waiting for you right next to your newspaper!” If you’re wondering about the NAP delivery person don’t worry we’ll get to them in the next few days.
There are delivery fees, but orders over $100 qualify for free delivery, so get together with some neighbours or school families and order together.
In Season offers delivery of all the following foods: beef, pork, poultry, fruit, vegetables, cheese, glass bottle milk, plastic container milk, eggs, butter, yogurt, bread, fresh pasta, snacks and sweets such as chocolate and ice cream sauces, jam, honey, granola, and coffee. Their eggs are $3.10 for a dozen large eggs from Chip-In Farm. I just drove out to Codman farm on the way to our CSA and picked up a dozen eggs for $3.00 so I think their pricing at least for eggs seems fair.
I’m about to start the turkey hunt for a local relatively small turkey for Thanksgiving since we are partially a group of vegetarians at Thanksgiving. I have a couple farms bookmarked on my computer from last year, but we ended up making different plans. Secretly, well not so secretly now, I’m dreaming of In Season delivering it to me…we’ll see what happens.
