Detroit Marathon Gear is IN!
Detroiters! Marathon season is upon us. And I’ve seen TONS of runners out there putting in their time – hopefully in preparation for next Sunday’s (October 19)
Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon.
We have the scoop on the official Detroit Marathon gear by New Balance.
When I visited the
New Balance shop on Big Beaver and Rochester Road in Troy, I thought I’d just see the official jacket from the Detroit Marathon website, but woo hoo! I was surprised to find much, much more.
Here’s a quick run-down of the goodies you’ll see on this season’s best-dressed runners:

Men's Wind Blocker Half Zip
- Wind Blocker Half-Zip (pictured) in orange or black (for men), and pink or black (for women), $90.
- Competitor Half-Zip (lighter weight than the Wind Blocker above) in orange or blue (for men) and pink or blue (for women), $70
- Raptor Jacket with marathon logo on the back in pink/black (for women) or blue/black (for men), $100.
- Men’s coconut long sleeve tech T, $50.
- Men’s short sleeve tech T in blue or gray, $30.
- Women’s reflective quilt vest in pink $75.
- Women’s long sleeve tech T with funky detail in pink, $40
- Women’s Aspire full-zip jacket in pink, $65.

Runners! This is the shirt you will get in your race packet -- so I'm told.
These items are tech-wear with flattering designs (like body-skimming seams for women) and thoughtful details runners appreciate, like vented fabric, iPod accessibility from well-placed pockets, reflective stripes and thumbholes for easy layering. I was pleasantly surprised because much clothing I see for runners fails miserably in the pocket department.
All this gear is available at New Balance’s two Detroit metro stores in Troy and Farmington Hills.
Prefer cotton? The folks at New Balance say there will be the items listed above PLUS cotton options at the
