The BBC  and Telegraph report that a Brazilian trans woman known as Brenda, who was linked to a scandal involving former Lazio Governor Piero Marrazzo of Italy, is believed to have died in a fire in her apartment.

A body believed to be that of Brenda was found in her apartment yesterday, November 20. Telegraph reports that magistrates are treating the death as a murder.

Marrazzo, an Italian politician who resigned after a video purported to show him with Brenda, admitted to having affairs with trans women, according to reports.

The BBC report says that Brenda had reported being threatened and robbed in the street, and had told friends that she was feeling depressed and suicidal.

This death occurred on the International Transgender Day of Remembrance, as trans people across the globe remembered those who have been killed or who have died as a result of trans-related hatred, discrimination, and violence.

I don't know if Brenda's name was added to the list for this year's memorial at the last minute. If not, it appears that the list of names for next year’s Day of Remembrance has already started.
