In this age of instant media people from all around the world have never been so connected. Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sites are paving the way for how we communicate.
Last night in Long Island could be the next chapter in the story. It was Phish’s first night at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York, the second night of their Summer Tour. One phan took it upon himself to make sure all his friends who couldn’t score a ticket to the sold out show, were able to attend the evenings festivities.
Using a modified iPhone the fan streamed the entire second set through the site ustream.tv. Although the video quality was sub-par, and zooming in was not an option, viewers could still see the light show well enough to appreciate the experience.
With the help of another phan wearing a headlamp, the rogue streamer was able to borrow enough AAA batteries to keep his microphone powered throughout the entire second set.
The audio quality was surprisingly good considering the situation. Many grassroots videos, filmed on a point-and-click camera for example, boast cringing blown-out audio. The iPhone’s audio was very listenable and more than satisfied even to most critical fan.
No doubt this fan will go down in Phish history. Thanks to him, many fans were able to turn off their lights and turn up the music in the comfort of their living room.
