Many of us are disturbed by the massive changes going on in the world these days. It seems as if the very structure of society is disintegrating. Economic upheaval and government secrets about torture and abuse being revealed are but two of the massive changes afoot.

It can be comforting to know that, astrologically speaking, we are right on track. The changes that are happening are reflected in the position of the planets. As above, so below!

Pluto, while demoted to a dwarf planet in the astronomy world, still is quite powerful in the world of astrology. He is the god of the underworld, ruling the unconscious and the shadow. Whatever Pluto touches becomes transformed.

Pluto recently changed signs into Capricorn. Because he is such a slow-moving planet, changing signs is a big deal. Before this shift, Pluto was in Sagittarius from 1995 until 2008. Before we look at Capricorn, let’s see what he did in Sagittarius.

Sagittarius rules philosophy and religion. Pluto’s transit through Sagittarius saw the exposure of the sexual abuse by Catholic priests. Pluto dredged up the shadow and brought it into the light of day, hopefully to be transformed.

Now Pluto is in Capricorn, where he will stay until 2024. Capricorn rules structure, government, corporations, and the patriarchy in all its forms. We are seeing the effects of Pluto already at work.  The Roto-Rooter Planet is on the job!

Transformation, which is Pluto’s real agenda, requires an initial period of clearing away the old to make room for the new. The old way of life is being cleared away, making room for a new way of being. It is up to us how we create our lives from here.

Astrology only sets up possibilities. Within those possibilities we have free will. We can choose to be frightened and cling to the old ways, or we can choose to dream a new dream, one that includes justice, peace and equality for all. After all, those are Aquarian values, and we are nearing the Aquarian Age! But that is another article . . .
