I’d like to tell you a little bit about two non-profits that have personally touched my heart and the hearts of many many others in the motorcycling community. I’m talking about The Action Sports Medicine Foundation (ASMF) and The Road 2 Recovery  Foundation.

ASMF provides a mobile sports medicine at amateur action sports events and is supported by The Road 2 Recovery Foundation and Leatt Brace.

Last December, The Action Sports Medicine Unit and its staff were at the 2007 Mini O's MotoX National Winter Olympics (near Gainesville Florida) where Dr. Stephen J. Augustine, ASMF’s President and Founder and his medical team provided complementary on-site medical treatment for over 300 riders.

I’m sure that you’ll enjoy the following video that I personally produced of the ASMF/R2R medical team in action at last year’s Mini O’s in Gainesville, Fl.

And I'm also convinced that once you witness the dedication and the free-of-charge professional care that this organization provides for these amateur racers, you'll want to open up your heart (and your wallet) and donate whatever you can to ensure  all their good work continues.

The ASMF Mobile Sports Medicine Unit provided on-site sports medicine services from taping and stretching to evaluation and medical treatment of injuries not requiring emergency room transport, including x-rays. Utilizing 3 physicians, 1 physicians assistant, and 5 certified athletic trainers, the unit brought a new level and understanding of the importance of safety and health issues by providing information to the athletes on things like Safety Equipment, Dehydration and Concussions, just to name a few.

When riders have immediate access to onsite care for injuries such as setting broken bones and suturing lacerations, the number of riders transported to the hospital is significantly reduced.

And thses days, If you’re like me, I’m sure you’ve noticed there’s an abundance of charitable organizations, with hands outstretched, working hard to solicit donations at this particular time each year.

Yea, I know that times are tough right now, but we’ll all have to concede that the holiday shopping season is officially under way at the first site of uniforms and the sound of bells as you try to dodge that pot stationed strategically in front of the entrance to your favorite grocery store. Somehow, shopping for the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner just wouldn’t be that same without those bell ringers.

While charities like The Salvation Army are immediately familiar to most Americans, lesser known foundations like ASMF and Road2 Recovery are equally as well meaning non-profits and they could use our help and hard earned bucks too!

  • The Action Sports Medicine Foundation's goal is to provide a reliable and valid resource for athletes looking to receive sports medicine services, and for the various health care workers interested in providing these services.
  • The Road 2 Recovery Foundation is dedicated to helping AMA licensed motocross members with financial assistance if they sustain career-ending injuries as well as providing motivational, emotional and spiritual support to these individuals and their families.
