Let me start this off by showing possibly one of the best ads I have ever seen. This was made in 1976, when Swine Flu was ‘sweeping the nation.’

They just don’t make propaganda like that anymore! I give that an A+ for over-the-top effort.

Not only was this ad a big hit in scaring the hell out of people, but also worked well in getting people to sign up to receive the shot. You could possibly venture out to say the vaccine was also effective in being completely, well, un-effective?

Here is a snapshot of what the 1970’s vaccine did:

  • According to the Los Angeles Times, the vaccine was linked to Guillain-Barré syndrome and more than 500 people developed the disorder.
  • Guillain Barre Syndrome is a paralyzing neuromuscular disorder
  • 25 people died from the vaccine
  • Thousands more became seriously injured
  • 4,000 Americans claimed damages against the US Government from the shots
  • The shot was deemed more deadly than the flu itself

Recently the Huffington Post had this to say:

In a disturbing new projection, health officials say up to 40 percent of Americans could get swine flu this year and next and several hundred thousand could die without a successful vaccine campaign and other measures.

The estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are roughly twice the number of those who catch flu in a normal season and add greater weight to hurried efforts to get a new vaccine ready for the fall flu season.

A world health official said the first vaccines are expected in September and October. The United States expects to begin testing on some volunteers in August, with 160 million doses ready in October.

This article goes on to talk about a ‘flu’ pandemic from 1957 that killed 70,000 Americans (not the Swine Flu) and even went all the way back to the 1918-19 Spanish Flu pandemic.

Not one mention of 1976. Why not?

Don’t get me wrong, I realize only 1 person died from the Swine Flu in 1976, and today’s ‘epidemic’ has killed around 300 people in the United States. However, let’s also put this into perspective. The ‘regular flu’ kills around 30,000 to 40,000 people yearly in the United States.

In fact, I personally think the ones who should be first in line to take the vaccine should be the people pushing for it and producing it. They should test it out on each other before they come to the public with it. That seems fair to me given their track record. If this truly is going to reach 40% of the United States, be great leaders and take that shot. You are representing the public after all.

Realistically, when you do the math you have 435 members in the House of Representatives, 100 Senators, Obama’s Administration, and all the media reporters across the nation, the 5 drug companies and their employees working on the vaccine,  you’re in the thousands. Let’s throw all of Obama’s Czars in there for good measure. That’s enough for a trail run, don’t you think?

Until the above mentioned happens, I sure won’t be signing up to take the vaccine anytime soon.
