Just because the 4th of July is the least popular weekend to get married in Houston doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have your dream wedding on
Independence Day. In fact there are at least four great reasons you should save the date, Saturday, July 3rd for your 2010 wedding.
Historically the month of July has been Houston’s slowest wedding month because it is always so hot. The recent record breaking heat wave simply proves the point. The
National Weather Service tells us Houston’s average rainfall in July is the second lowest for any month while the sunshine index is the highest. We get it. It’s hot. It’s dry. It’s sunny. It's Houston in July.
Have no fear
Fear of the heat should not deter the Texas bride. The whole state is air conditioned to a comfortable 72 degrees so what’s not to love about July? The few muggy seconds you spend running between your vehicle and a building shouldn’t defame an entire month. So crank up the A/C; get out your calendar; put away your wallet. We’re about to plan your wedding.
Here are 4 wonderful reasons to swim against the tide and get married on the 4th of July:
1. Vendor availability
An informal poll of more than a dozen Houston wedding vendors confirmed what
The Linen House experiences every year: almost everything is available during the 4th of July holiday weekend. No matter how popular, trendy or in-demand an item may be chances are excellent that if you want it for your July 4th wedding you can have it. A typical wedding weekend at The Linen House puts a strain on our popular ivory damask wedding linens. For the 4th of July, however you can have all you want. In fact, you can have all the red, white, blue, ivory, green, lavender, gold, silver, copper, black, chocolate, pink or any other color you fancy. Beautiful linens are just sitting in
linen companies' warehouses all over the city this weekend just wishing for a little wedding love.
2. Built-in color scheme
Maybe you don’t want a red, white and blue wedding. There are plenty of bridesmaid dresses, party favors, linens,
flowers and other décor available in every other hue of the rainbow. But really, if you’re getting married on our nation’s birthday, the least you can do is give it a little salute. Don’t be timid.
Have fun with it. The slideshow photos include some subtle and some not so subtle red, white and blue options for your consideration.
3. Three day weekend
Almost all companies will declare Friday, July 2, 2010 as Independence Day, giving all their employees, i.e., your friends and relatives, a nice three day weekend. Get your
Save the Date card out early so your guests can add some extra vacation time and make a week of it. Weddings are such a great time for get-togethers. Your 4th of July timing will make it easy to have a big turn out for your wedding.
4. Fireworks
You can hire your own pyrotechnician to create a dramatic moment at the end of your reception. He can even
spell out your love in spinning, exploding lights. Alternatively, time everything just right and the
city of Houston will stage a heart stopping 20 minute fireworks display right around 9:00 pm. The city’s display is free. Your pyrotechnician’s bill will be just a tad more.
Saves you money
Here is a word of warning. Anytime you book a wedding or event on a Sunday, holiday or other unusual time there may be additional fees to compensate vendors’ staff for working on their day off. Compared to other holiday weddings, planning a 4th of July wedding could work to your advantage. On that one holiday vendors are usually eager for business. At other times like Christmas, Hanukkah, or New Years your providers are already booked with lots of other parties and weddings. Be sure to ask your supplier for a discount and to wave any extra fees in exchange for your business on the 4th of July. Here's bonus reason #5: As Houston icon
Mattress Mac would say, a 4th of July wedding ‘Saves you money.’
More than four – way more
To recap, here are the top 4 (or 5) reasons to get married on the 4th of July:
- Vendor availability
- Built in color scheme
- Three day weekend
- Fireworks
- Saves you money!
