Pork and beer and ice cream, oh my.

Originally celebrating the wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in Munich in 1810, Oktoberfest has grown into the world’s largest party where around 6,000,000 people kick up their lederhosen and polka Munchen nights away while chugging liters of Festbier (Marzen) and gorging on various sausages and bretzels. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Jesse Friedman from Beer and Nosh is hosting NOToberfest, a not-so-Germanic feast prepared by Ryan Farr & the 4505 Meats Team. The menu so far:

  • Whole center cut Magruder Ranch grass fed Beef Roasted Over open fire
  • Barley Beer Brats on a stick
  • Malt studded and malt extract glazed Pork Belly
  • Hopped Rolled Face on a fence
  • Fried croquet on barley and sour apple chutney/jam

For dessert, diners will be astounded by custom beer-infused ice creams & treats from Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream.

But this is a beer dinner. So let's not overlook the wildly exotic beers from brewmaster Steve Altimari of Valley Brewing Co. Not a single Marzen in the bunch:

  • Luna Blanca – Central Valley Golden Ale
  • “Notoberfest” Bourbon Barrel Maibock Lager
  • Brandy Barrel Aged “Collaborative Evil” Belgian Strong Golden Ale
  • Olallieberry Sour
  • India Pale Ale
  • Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout
  • Valley Brew Skullsplitter Root Beer

Essential Details:?Saturday, October 10th 2009, 1-5pm?Mars Bar,  798 Brannan St,  San Francisco, CA?

$50 prepurchase / $60 at the door – All inclusive for beer, food and commemorative tasting glass.
