There is speculation that former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was shot and killed by his alleged girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, who then shot herself in an apparent murder-suicide.
Sepideh Salmani does not believe her aunt killed herself or anyone else. Salmani told the Tennessean she and Kazemi were raised as sisters after Kazemi’s mother was killed in their native Iran. Salmani said they spoke daily and Kazemi was happy in her relationship with McNair.
“She was one, young girl who had so many dreams that never came true. She would never kill anyone, ever. Or anything—not even a little bug. I want people to know that,” said Salmani.

A neighbor of Kazemi’s, Regan Howard, expressed a similar sentiment, saying, “She was a nice girl. I can’t believe she would do that.” Howard said she was unsure whether Kazemi or McNair lived in the apartment, since McNair was there so much.
After McNair bought Kazemi a Cadillac Escalade, Howard helped her figure out how to use the remote starter.
Kazemi had spoken about McNair to Salmani for several months and told her they met at Dave & Busters. “He started to talk to her a little. They exchanged phone numbers, and started dating from there.”
Kazemi told her that McNair was in the process of divorcing his wife and that the two would move in together and eventually marry after the divorce was over.
“All she was trying to do was have fun. Nothing else. I believe there is a third person involved,” said Salmani.
Salmani now believes McNair was using Kazemi because she was young and pretty. Salmani said her greatest dream was to be famous and “I think she is now. She is everywhere.”
An autopsy on both McNair and Kazemi is scheduled for Sunday.
