On Friday, Mar. 27, 8-year-old Sandra Cantu disappeared from outside her home at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park in Tracy, Calif. A surveillance camera installed by her family captured an image of her as she was leaving her home.
Investigators have questioned several persons of interest, including a man named Frank Woehler, 60, who admitted kissing the girl on the lips when she was only 6-years-old. Woehler’s station wagon was searched along with his home.
Another person of interest is a relative of Sandra’s, Chris Sinclair, who had three vehicles seized by authorities.
Another man’s home was searched on Friday and two of his cars were towed. David Slayter, 44, was escorted from the trailer park in an unmarked police car, but police said he is not a suspect and volunteered to speak with police.
Tracy Police also confirmed a search of the mobile homes at the park where Sandra disappeared was conducted and turned up evidence, but did not indicate what was found.
Sandra’s mother, Maria Chavez met with the media last week and pleaded, “Please whoever has her, just let her go. She needs to come home to her mom who loves her very much and misses her.”
A parent of one of Sandra’s friends told investigators she saw a suspicious black Jeep Cherokee in the area around the time Sandra went missing.
There was also a rumor circulating that Sandra’s father, Daniel Cantu took the girl to Mexico. “Don’t believe everything you hear… especially from an unreliable source. That’s about the wisest thing I’m going to tell you,” said Sandra’s father.
Sandra’s father and mother are divorced and according to reports, he has not been a large part of her life and had not seen her in a year.
Tracy Police said they searched everyone’s trash in the city and found a Hello Kitty t-shirt like the one Sandra was last seen wearing.
Tracy Police Lieutenant Jeremy Watney said, “It looked very similar [to the one she wore], which is why we brought it back to the mother. But [her] mother said it wasn’t. That’s not to say we’re not going further. We still have it. It’s still going to be examined. It’s still going to be tested.”
Sandra is described as Hispanic, 4 feet tall, 45 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a small birthmark on her right cheek. She was wearing a pink Hello Kitty t-shirt and black leggings when she disappeared.
If you have any information about Sandra, please call the Tracy Police Department at 209-831-4550 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
