Casey Anthony has been charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. If she is unable to pay attorneys to defend her, taxpayers may end up footing the bill for her defense.
As it stands, taxpayers will already be paying to prosecute her, but her attorney, Jose Baez has the legal right to argue the state should also pay for a large portion of her defense fees.
For this to happen, the state of Florida would have to declare Casey indigent or financially unable to pay for her defense.
Baez would also have to sign a 20-page contract and disclose any funding sources.

On Monday, the Florida State Attorney’s Office confirmed it is seeking the death penalty against Casey. Her trial is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 12.
