The high-powered defense team of Casey Anthony is calling into question the diary entry offered by the state as evidence, which is dated June 21.
The state claims the entry was made in 2008 only six days after Caylee Anthony disappeared. In it, Anthony writes, “I just hope that the end justifies the means. This is the happiest that I have been in a very long time.”
Anthony’s defense team says the entry was written in 2003, not 2008 because the opposite page to the entry in question has “03” written in the upper left hand corner.
Marti Mackenzie, spokesperson for the defense told PEOPLE, “It’s in the same color ink and the same handwriting. This was written in 2003, not 2008.”
According to a source within the police department, the date of the diary entries have not been authenticated and “…there are ways to tell when this was written. At this point, we can’t definitely say when this entry was written.”
PEOPLE asked the source if the entry could be from 2003, the source said, “That’s entirely possible. No one should jump to any conclusions yet.” To read the entry, click here.
Anthony has been charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee and is expected to stand trial sometime in the fall of 2009.
