Lead defense counsel Jose Baez and Casey Anthony’s defense team are calling the forensic reports regarding the duct tape, plastic bags, and other items of evidence as speculative, biased, and one-sided.
The defense refers to the state’s analysis of evidence as junk science, and believes it is similar to that examined in a study released by the National Academy of Sciences on Wednesday.
Linda Kenney-Baden, defense co-counsel said, “We’re looking closely at the NAS report. Comparative forensic analyses like those in this discovery are conducted by law enforcement agencies with no independent oversight. Our defense experts will make sure there is an objective analysis of this biased discovery. The Anthony case may be one to set a precedent in exposing the flaws in evidence that only law enforcement has tested.”
According to Baez, “It is just as important to focus on the fact that there are no fingerprints on the duct tape and there never was any red sticker of any shape or size found on the tape.”
Anthony, 22, is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter Caylee Anthony, 2, whose remains were found Dec. 11, 2008. Anthony’s trial is expected to begin sometime this fall.
