After George Anthony, 57, failed to show up for a family meeting with attorney Brad Conway at 4 p.m. on Thursday, his family reported him missing.
George had sent text messages to the family stating he wanted to end his life. Police, who took him to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona for observation after concerns he may be suicidal, found him at a Daytona Beach, Florida motel room.
Under the Baker Act, he can be held for 72 hours evaluation without being charged.
George is the grandfather of slain Caylee Anthony, 2, and father of Casey Anthony, 22, who is accused of murdering Caylee.
