Oscar-winning director, Steven Soderbergh, has created a play based on the Casey Anthony case, which will hit the Australian stage in December.

The production called ‘Tot Mom’ will use transcripts from Nancy Grace’s HLN show, police reports, and court documents as its source material. The play will open Dec. 18 and run through Jan. 31 at the Sydney Theatre Co. in Australia.

On its Web site, the company notes that the case has baffled investigators and poses the questions “Why was Caylee’s disappearance not reported to police for over a month? When was the child last seen? What was the strange smell in the boot of Casey Anthony’s car? Who and where was the alleged babysitter?”

Australian actress Essie Davis will play Nancy Grace.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that by taking the play Australia, Soderbergh does not have to compensate anyone for material.

Soderbergh won an Oscar for directing the film ‘Traffic’ and has a number of noteworthy other noteworthy credits in the entertainment industry.

Casey is charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony. Her trial is slated to begin June 2010.
