Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) will be featured at the environmentally friendly Green Inaugural Ball this Saturday night. The Ball will take place at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium in the EPA building, Federal Triangle. The event is being promoted as "Maximum celebration with minimal impact". GEM is one of the sponsors and will shuttle VIP guests to and from the event. There will also be a GEM parked out front for the general public to ogle.
Jenna Mack, event organizer, stated that the Green Ball will "have very little impact on the environment". This will be done using a variety of techniques from the recycling of leftover food for farm compost to the use of low wattage LED stage lighting.
On top of that, Wyclef Jean will be the headliner so that alone should get the event hopping and the greenies excited. Apparently a few tickets are still available and the event is open to the public so you still have time to dust off your tux and head to Constitution Ave on the 17th. As the event is not on inauguration day, there will be none of the traffic hassles expected on the 20th.
While GEM cars do not necessarily invoke the loin girding reaction of the Tesla super sport electric car, they at least have tenacity going for them as the company has been around for a full decade. The company is owned by Chrysler and the vehicles are designed for shorter distance, domestic duty mostly or light people shuttling. The GEM is an actual car however and not a glorified golf cart although it does rather resemble one.
Given the choice, I would go for the 6-seater with the full canopy enclosure option. It's the most car-like of the line-up and probably the most practical. GEMs simply plug into a 110v outlet and can be charge overnight. You cannot drive them cross-country but a single charge will give you a decent 40 miles of low-speed pleasure. Perfect for shuttling your guests from the private runway to the villa.
Drop by the Green Ball to have a glimpse of this quirky little green car or purchase a VIP ticket and enjoy the ride!
