It has been over three months since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reelected as president of Iran and over three months since the first of the historic protests began, led by Iranians who believe the results were rigged.
On September 18th, known as Quds Day in Iran, protesters reminded the world that they are not willing to give up in the battle for democracy. Thousands took to the streets of Tehran, including past presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi. Karroubi is a staunch supporter of women’s rights in Iran and recently spoke out about the abuse detained protesters are being subjected to while in jail. Reports say reformist politician Mir-Hossein Mousavi was also in attendance, the man who chose the color that has spurred the "Green Revolution" in Iran.
And now, the fight is coming to New York City. Protest organizers are calling for crowds to meet on September 23rd and 24th during Ahmadinejad’s visit to the U.N. The Iranian president has also come under fire these past few days from Western governments for remarks he made about the Holocaust, questioning if it really happened.
