Hawkins and Jake say 'hogwash'

For those of you are wondering rightfully if I am going ever going to focus on a DVD set of a show other than "Jericho," I assure that I am. I reviewed "Lost" yesterday and am watching DVDs of "Bones," "firefly," and "Dallas." I will share my thoughts on these shows during the next few weeks.

I do want to comment to my fellow rangers (I still like the phrase freedom farmer as well) that I did not think that our reunion would occur so soon, and I would appreciate any thoughts regarding how to get this show out of my head. It invaded my brain once again at 1:30 last night.

The thoughts last night centered around how the phrase "hogwash" is a good rallying cry for the second season. Those of you who watched this season know the obvious reason that this applies, but it applies also to the policies and propaganda of the fictional governing power that ruled during this season. I think that consciously or subconsciously that it why this highly relevant show strikes such a cord in so many who watch it and literally keep some of us up at night. As one character asked, how can a government that we did not elect represent us?

The government's statement regarding the source of the nuclear attacks; hogwash! The fascist curtailing of personal freedoms and property rights; hogwash! Not prosecuting those who executed brutal and unwarranted attacks; hogwash!

On a personal note, I live in Massachusetts where my state representative and 117 other democrats ran unopposed for state representative positions last month; hogwash! On an even more personal note, my state representative ignored several calls last year regarding an issue of concern to me; hogwash! I would be equally upset if 118 republicans had run unopposed.

The representative and I had been friendly before then, and I had supported him, but he shouted that he would call the police if I ever called him again when I did get him on the telephone. (He never heard me out.) The funny thing is that he had just been named legislator of the year. I think that his response would have been different if he was facing an opponent.

Yes, unlike on "Jericho," others could have run against these folks but doing so seemed futile because of their lock on power. I almost ran against my representative but faced the problem of not wanting to run without support and not having any support unless I ran.

The lesson of "Jericho" and of the state of affairs in Massachusetts is to make your voice heard and oppose tyranny. I, and many others, want "Jericho" to keep on spreading this message.

I apologize for not mentioning my wonderful contacts with rangers but am pressed for time today.

Please do add comments to this entry or e-mail them to tvdvdguy@gmail.com. I welcome you to call my thoughts hogwash and promise to not go New Bern on yoiur back forty.
