Looking like January in June along streets in Washington Township, NJ.  WABC-TV

A severe thunderstorm erupted over Washington Township, New Jersey on Monday with marble sized hail.  As impressive as that sounds, the hail covered the ground  3-4 inches deep.  The scene was odd as neighbors were shoveling the ice in T-shirts and shorts.  Plows were needed to clear some streets with piles of ice more than a foot high along the route.

As you can see in the ABC report, the ice was still on the ground during their 11pm newscast.  The combination of heavy rain, which led to local flooding as well, helped to turn some of the hail piles into solid ice.

More on how hail is formed, and images of hail rings in the slide show below the videos and storm reports.
