Small businesses just don't get Twitter or Facebook

Small business owners are still mystified about Twitter and Facebook.

A Citibank/GfK Roper survey, just released, found that small business owners are not involved in using the so-called social networks to improve their bottom line

Seventy-six percent of small business owners did not find Twitter or Facebook useful to generate business leads and 86% didn't use the sites to get information or advice.

 

 

“Our survey suggests that small-business owners are still feeling their way into social media, particularly when it comes to using these tools to grow their businesses,”

 

said Maria Veltre, executive vice president of Citi's Small Business Segment.

 

“While social media can provide additional channels to network and help grow a business, many small businesses may not have the manpower or the time required take advantage of them.”

 

Indicating that small business owners are not quite sure what Twitter or Facebook are, 61% said they are focusing on using Google or Yahoo to advance their business.

 

The survey, released Friday, contacted about 500 small-business owners across the U.S. and has a margin of error of about 3.5 percent.
