During Inauguration weekend, there are those of us who will be decked out in tuxedoes, riding around in limousines, and hobknobbing with the Washington D.C. “elite”. The rest of us will have to slum it in our usual haunts.
Sadly, the most popular concerts are already sold out. You can probably find tickets on Craigslist or Stub Hub, but regular priced tickets are already gone for both Jay-Z shows , Moby at 930 Club, the Big Shoulders Ball at the Black Cat, and the Beastie Boys / Sheryl Crow concert.
But there is plenty to do around the city during Inauguration weekend and we’ll keep you up to date.
Here’s a list so far:
President-Elect Barack Obama has promised a free or affordable ball type event at the DC Convention Center on Inauguration Night. Details have not been announced.
Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Beyonce and others will perform at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday for the free We Are One concert. Times have yet to be announced, but the concert will be televised on HBO that evening.
Hip-hop legend Afrika Bambaataa will be DJing at Modern in Georgetown. Tickets are just $20.
Brightest Young Things is throwing an all day all night Inauguration Spectacular at Bohemian Caverns featuring many DJs including Wale and the Fatback DJs whom I’ve mentioned in these pages before.
Busboys and Poets is staying open 24/7 from Friday, January 16 through Inauguration Day and will have too much entertainment to mention here.
And finally, the first ever T-Shirts and Tails Inaugural Ball at Darlington House.
More to come….
