So Sarah Palin quits as Governor of AlasKA. Have I got the pronunciation right? You betcha.
In a party that seems to just keep on giving one lame personality after another, this move makes the other jokers look somewhat tepid. I mean extramarital-affairs are pretty much expected these days. We see it in both parties of course. John Edwards comes to mind and Eliot Spitzer. But the Republicans seem to hit you with a broadside that doesn’t give you enough time to recover before the next scandal hits.
Now we have Sarah Palin. No affair going on here I guess. Nope. This is simply a case of the most blatant rank opportunism that we’ve seen in a long time. This woman was recently running on a presidential ticket, and now resigns as Governor? I don’t see how that furthers her presidential aspirations if she still holds them. In an election year, I can understand an office holder taking off from his duties to campaign for president. The time to act is now. But Palin is leaving office in an off year with 18 months left on her first term. This makes no sense. But then Sara Palin has never made any sense to me. There’s a lot of speculation over the reasons for her walking away. Maybe she’s simply burned out on the job. Maybe she’s over her head. Maybe it’s personal matters. Whatever it is, Sister Sarah will come out of this on her feet. She has a lucrative book deal, and no doubt she can make tons of money on speaking tours. Perhaps even a TV or radio show of her own will satisfy her need for attention. But…if it’s a thought of running for president in 2012…it’s clear that she still has a lot to learn.
